Block Kids
What is Block Kids?
The Block-Kids Building Program is a national building program competition that introduces children to the construction industry. The competion involves the construction of various structures with interlocking blocks and three of the following additional items: A small rock, string, foil and posterboard.
This event is presented by: NEF (NAWIC Educational Foundation), NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) and Capital Area Construction Council
Program Guidelines
Students grades 1-6 can participate. They are given a maximum of one hour to use their blocks & selected items to build a project that is in some way related to the construction industry.
Items used: (All provided the day of the event)
• Interlocking blocks
• 3 of the following items:
• Small rock
• String
• Foil
• Poster board
Once completed, judges will ask the participants about their project.
• Why did they chose to build this project?
• What do you like about it?
• Is there anything you would change?
• How will it be used?
Projects are scored on:
• Oral Presentation • Use of materials
• Enthusiasm • Attention to detail
• Creativity • Reason for participation
Projects are judged at the local, regional and national level. Prizes are awarded to the top three national winners.
